Tedlar® meets Polyamide – Solar backsheet ICOSOLAR® TPA HR

Tedlar® meets Polyamide – Solar backsheet ICOSOLAR® TPA HR
  • High and extremely durable EVA and layer adhesion
  • Exceptionally high reflectivity
  • High UV-stability

Lebring, Feb. 10th, 2014
The new ICOSOLAR® TPA HR backsheet of ISOVOLTAIC combines the best out of two film technologies: Tedlar® & Polyamide and provides excellent properties over the module’s service life. This PV backsheet is highly reliable, perfectly fits for installations under especially challenging conditions and increases module efficiency through high reflectivity.

The unique resin system of ISOVOLTAIC has already proven to be best-in-class for more than 25 years in TPT-backsheets like ICOSOLAR® 2442. It assures layer adhesion that still works after 3500 h Damp Heat testing and is also used for the new ICOSOLAR® TPA HR backsheet. By adding the innovative Polyamide film on the cell side it provides exceptionally high reflectivity and in addition to that a remarkable EVA adhesion of up to 100 N/cm (measured by leading tier 1 module manufacturers). Field-proven Tedlar® features high resistance to UV and weathering for the outer layer. The PET core provides mechanical stability, electrical insulation and a water vapor barrier.

Solar cells require effective protection to be able to efficiently convert sunlight into useable energy. This protection has to be provided by PV backsheets for a long time. Adhesion values between the layers of the backsheet and from the backsheet to EVA are critical, as delamination seriously reduces the module service lifetime.

ISOVOLTAIC is a world market and technology leader in the development and production of backsheets for PV modules and has produced more than 150 Million m2 of solar backsheets since its beginnings in the 1980s. The company offers ICOSOLAR® backsheets, both proven TPT-composite films (e.g. ICOSOLAR® 2442) and innovative films based on polyamide (e.g. ICOSOLAR® APA 3G), that have also already established themselves in the market. The combination of these two technologies results in exceptionally durable backsheets (ICOSOLAR® TPA 3G and ICOSOLAR® TPA HR).

  • Quality and Reliability of PV-Systems, Modules and Components

Quality and reliability of PV-systems and modules strongly depend on the quality of every single component and determine the lifetime performance of PV-Installations. On October 17th, 2013 independent technical experts from leading European testing institutes and companies shared their know-how and experience around these topics with representatives of the most important module manufacturers in China. The visitors of this conference learned about existing and new standards for PV-systems and about the criteria for quality, reliability and performance of PV–modules with special focus on encapsulation and protection of the solar cell.
